Pope Benedict XVI told Latin American bishops in Brazil that American Indians had been "silently longing" to become Christians 500 years ago.I'm sure those American Indians were "silently longing" while violently dying at the hands of Catholic conquistadors. Hubris. I guess if you're god's annointed you can say incredibly foul and condescending bullshit like that & get away with it. I'm not the least bit disappointed that the west occupied the Americas, but it seems unlikely that the millions of American Indians who died of disease were just silently longing for a bronze age shepherding sect to come send them all to heaven.
