Christian Charity, Religious Freedom, And Atheists In Foxholes

Atheists in the military sue the Pentagon over several disturbing incidents. I guess they're fighting for other people's religious freedom, so long as other people aren't godless heathens.

Right-wing Christians love to say they are the persecuted ones, and they love to say they're just trying to publicly testify their beliefs and show their faith. But in action, fundie Christians are just insecure tribal bullies with extremely fragile faith, so fragile they need their mysticism institutionalized to feel secure.

Let's hope a fair judge strikes down this form of socialized evangelism.

  1. The 'none' on my dogtags 15 years ago was just sort of skimmed over. How in the world did we get to be more religious? Replacing the country club as the way to identify who you want to be around is sad, but okay.
We want military guys to stick to killing people and the facilitating thereof, not religious persecution.

  2. I think it's sick that the one place it shouldn't matter what you believe but what you have done and can do, now is a breeding place for institutionalized Yaweh-cultism.

    Christian charity is an oxymoron.

  3. I have a bad feeling about this. The Supreme Court has already deferred to the military regarding religious freedom in GOLDMAN v. WEINBERGER, 475 U.S. 503 (1986). It took an act of Congress to overrule the decision. I don't see Congress coming to Spc. Hall's aid (or OURS) any time soon.
