yeah, I'm a fan of minor league baseball, but I'm hoping that this thing goes tits-up. I'm getting sick of 'taxpayer-funded private enterprise', which seems to be the norm nowadays.
yeah, they said the same thing back when they built the "whatever the hell it's called now" Coliseum, and it's turned into a hole into which the metro government is pouring money, while Titans owner Bud Adams still gets a cut of concession revenues for non-Titans events, plus veto power over ANY other event being hosted in the stadium (the one he didn't spend a cent for, other than contributions to the re-election campaigns of city council members, back in the days when a candidate could decide to keep some of that money for himself).
The Nashville Sports Authority has been a chancre on the labia of Nashville politics. Yet another reason for local taxes "movin' on up".
The Sounds should pay for their own damn stadium. They have pitiful attendance and little other revenue, so they can't afford a fraction of what this is going to cost. I'm still hoping the deal falls through, the sounds move away, and they put a combination toxic waste dump and spotted owl slaughterhouse on the site of the old (Greer) stadium.

ReplyDeleteHey, I know what you mean but I have no problem at all with public money going to baseball or guns.
ReplyDeleteThe Sounds have gone a long way in trying to work with the community on this. http://www.nashvillesounds.com/news/
In general, it seems this is one of the better "downtown renaissance" deals that are supposed to be great.
