It will be interesting to see American audience reaction to a film that is intended to be a commentary on media violence. I love the original, but not, I'm sure, as the director intended. Haneke probably doesn't realize that Americans generally like their thriller/horror movies as catharsis & not commentary. (And wow, Michael Pitt is tailor-made for "Paul".)
I thought the same thing, Tobermory, about the casting of Michael Pitt as Paul. The preview has him pulling off the part brilliantly; and I dare say that he might get an Oscar nomination if his performance holds true for the rest of the film.
It's going to be a hard part to pull off. I couldn't think of a better young actor to do it.
