    I had heard rumors of this, and had suspected as much.

    I mourn that Randi had to live his life closeted, but I understand why he had to do so.

    How sad that greatness has and is so shackled by superstitious mores and antiquated, baseless prudery. For more decades than I have lived, Randi has been a crusader against religious subjugation, the exploitation of the credulous, and the hysterical and shameless promotion of pseudo-science.

    His private sufferings for those causes' sake, even to this decade, should make even the most modern secularist and humanist heterosexual--and even more so the liberal theists--give pause.

    The LGBT in this country need their friends. We are nothing more than an exploited second class, a dehumanized bugbear for the hysterical right, without support from those who--like us--reject bronze-age proscriptions and embrace reality-based empathy and dignity.

    For Randi's sake: remove the cause, and the apocalyptic, repressive symptoms will go with it...
