Frank DeCaro Oscar Special

Before the Academy Awards this Sunday, tune into Frank DeCaro's touted "deranged" Oscar special featuring a strange diversity of guests: from Barbara Walters to Bruce Vilanch to Faction's great Jason Ellis (whose afternoon radio program is equally debase and brilliant).

6 pm CST on OutQ Sirius 109, XM 93

I Take It Back

Maybe I wished that Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown was just a quasi-science fiction album and not a prophesy. With what's going on in this country now, the opus was the latter.

So, I change my review of Green Day's last album: 21st Century Breakdown is the best punk album of this decade.

If you've seen the evangelical Christian-driven racist protests fueled by Republican apologists/cynics, doesn't the following ring a bell?

I am a nation
a worker of pride
My debt to the status quo
The scars on my hands and a means to an end
It's all that I have to show

I swallowed my pride
and I choked on my Faith
I've given my heart and my soul
I've broken my fingers
And lied though my teeth
The pillar of damage control

I've been to the edge
And I've thrown the bouquet
Of flowers left over the grave
I sat in the waiting room
Wasting my time
And waiting for judgment day

Praise liberty
The freedom to obey
Is the song that strangles me
Well don't cross the line

Oooh dream, America dream
I can't even sleep
From the light's early dawn

Oooh scream, America scream
Believe what you see
From heroes and cons?!
Or, to quote my favorite radio liberal talk show: we have become a nation of "angry asshats."

I want to leave now...

His Lord Jesus Rejected The Bail-Out Plea

Homophobic schyster James Dobson's Focus on the Family announced they were laying off 202 people (roughly 20% of their workers). This from an organization that just gave half a million dollars to Yes on 8 in California.

Sorry we have to let you go, but what do you want me to do?. Feeding your family isn't nearly as important as fighting gay ones.

Sirius Halloween

From October 29 through October 31, Sirius channel 119 will be playing radio versions of famous Alfred Hitchcock movies. And Halloween night Sirius Radio Classics (118) will be playing Orson Welles' infamous and brilliant "War of the Worlds" broadcast.

But why isn't one of the metal stations going all Rob Zombie? Maybe next year...

Fangoria Radio?

Yep, and only on Sirius. Channel 102, 9-11 central Friday nights. I just found out about this, but I think Dee Snider hosts. How fucking cool is that?

Just another reason to pay the $150/year to not listen to tired, soporific terrestrial radio.

And fuck Congress for delaying the Sirius/XM merger. Competition exists in plenitude; and it's not as though, once the merger happens, XM's and Sirius' satellites will spawn missiles and lasers to shoot down competitors.

On the Air

Tonight, Thursday 8/30, will be my first broadcast of the season. I've got a new partner, who's a nut. We'll be on 1490am and if things go right we'll be global at protalk1490. Check out the site I did to back things up - blackbearfootball.com.

Beware Liberals Making Jokes

When I was living in Chapel Hill, the local all-liberal radio station broadcast the Stephanie Miller Show in the morning. I came to love it for their irreverent humor. While Stephanie is an unabashed liberal, she is the daughter of Barry Goldwater's VP running mate. She is accompanied by Jim Ward, a nut-job conspiracy-theory leftist who does the BEST voice impersonations EVER (called the "voice deity"), and by Chris Lavoie, her libertarian atheist skeptic producer. The collision of these three is a riot, especially in the Bush era.

Well until Wednesday, Stephanie and her gang are filling the Imus morning time-slot (5-8 am CST) at MSNBC. It's good fun, even if you don't agree with her.

Did I mention she's a gay-loving, wine-soaked, potty-mouthed hussy?
